Beautiful silver hemidrachm from Tabaristan struck during the early Islamic period in the distinctive Arab-Sasanian style, dating approximately 734–803 AD.
These fascinating issues continued the artistic traditions of the earlier Sasanian Empire while incorporating Islamic-era inscriptions and symbols. The obverse features a stylized crowned portrait, while the reverse displays the traditional fire altar with attendants motif associated with Sasanian coinage.
